Major and planned gift programs have often been thought of as the private purview of credentialed development, legal, and financial professionals. With terms like “present value methodology” and “four-tier system of taxation,” it’s no wonder many of us feel this way. This session will focus on the real reasons donors make gifts of impact — their desire to make a difference in the world they live in, both now and in the future — and how you can gain confidence in discussing major and planned gift opportunities with them. We will:

• Review the reasons donors consider making major and legacy gifts
• Provide suggestions on making the initial phone call and personal meeting invitation
• Discuss listening skills that prepare you to engage in conversations about major and planned gift opportunities and soliciting the gift commitments



Starting a Planned Giving Program

Evaluating and choosing which planned gift vehicles are best for your organization takes time but is well worth the effort. Most organizations can use existing resources to begin a basic legacy program and continue by incorporating additional gift opportunities over time. Successful planned giving programs take time to build but usually see a financial return on their efforts in as little as three to five years.  We’ll use real-world examples to:

• Present the benefits of starting a planned gift program
• Review the most common deferred gift vehicles that charities promote
• Offer target marketing strategies for your various constituencies

PCI – The Credit Card Changes that Will Impact You!      

Speaker: Bucky Wall and Mark Banbury

Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) is a set of requirements developed by the major credit card companies to enhance credit and debit card data security. All organizations that process, store, or transmit payment card data must follow the PCI DSS requirements or will eventually risk losing their ability to process credit card payments. Join Bucky Wall, Director of Corporate Readiness at Blackbaud, as he explains how these requirements impact non-profit organizations. Following that, Mark Banbury, Vice President and Chief Information Officer for Plan Canada, will discuss his organization’s approach to compliance and the importance of these measures to the security of both NPOs and their constituents.
